Trump tells Rick Scott: No Social Security or Medicare cuts

Former President Donald Trump warned Sen. Rick Scott (R-FL) to steer away from cuts to Medicare and Social Security.
Scott recently nabbed an endorsement from the Club for Growth for his 2024 reelection bid, but Trump decried the group’s backing as the “kiss of death” and implored Scott to fight to safeguard those entitlement programs.

“Bad news for Senator Rick Scott of Florida! Club for NO Growth just announced they are going to back him, and without my backing them, an Endorsement from them is the kiss of death,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform.
Trump has been at odds with the Club for Growth, which he claims “fought me incessantly and rather viciously during my presidential run in 2016.”
“Be careful, Rick, and most importantly, fight for Social Security and Medicare. THERE WILL BE NO CUTS!” Trump added.
President Joe Biden has seized on Scott’s 12-Point Plan, which featured calls for a review of all government programs every five years to determine whether they should keep their funding. Democrats have warned that the plan could jeopardize Social Security and Medicare, something Scott has rejected.
House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) has been adamant that cuts to Social Security and Medicare are not on the table for the GOP.
Trump, who is running for reelection in 2024, previously laid down the gauntlet with Republicans on those programs, insisting that “under no circumstances should Republicans vote to cut a single penny from Medicare or Social Security.”
The Club for Growth endorsed Scott touting his “fiscal responsibility” while bashing “establishment Republicans like Leader McConnell” for mischaracterizing some of his ideas. McConnell has ripped Scott’s 12-Point Plan as a “bad idea.”
Scott has long feuded with Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY), as has Trump. Last year, Trump backed Scott’s challenge against McConnell for the Republican Senate leadership perch, but Scott ultimately fell short.

Despite Trump’s ire at the Club for Growth, Scott welcomed its endorsement.
“The establishment in Washington has failed and they’re the only ones who don’t realize it,” Scott said in a statement obtained by the Washington Examiner. “We need more champions in Washington who are willing to fight the status quo and work to rescue America from the failures of Joe Biden, Democrats, and the Washington establishment.”
