Black Hawk helicopter crash kills two, leaves no survivors in Alabama

A Tennessee National Guard helicopter crash in Alabama killed everyone on board Wednesday afternoon, the Madison County Sheriff’s Office said.
The aircraft, a Black Hawk helicopter, crashed along Highway 53 near the intersection at Burrell Road in Madison County, according to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency. The crash occurred near Huntsville.

Two people were on board the chopper at the time of the crash, but the names of the guards have not been released. It is not clear where the flight was coming from, sheriff’s office spokesman Brent Patterson told ABC News.
Redstone Arsenal, a nearby Army base, said it was aware of the incident but that it was not connected to the base.
“First responders are on scene, and Redstone Arsenal is in full support of local authorities in their active investigation,” the base said in a statement. “Initial investigations have determined that the incident is not connected to Redstone Arsenal assets, and we will continue to support community authorities as the situation develops.”
The sheriff’s office said it received a call about the crash around 3 p.m., and first responders claimed the helicopter was “engulfed in flames” and a complete loss because of its condition. Given the state of the helicopter, the sheriff’s office determined there were no survivors, Patterson said.
Deputies from the sheriff’s office were securing the scene and advised drivers of road closures in the area near the crash.

“I’m deeply saddened by the fatal helicopter crash that happened in Madison County today,” Rep. Dale Strong (R-AL) tweeted Wednesday evening. “My heart hurts for those who lost their lives in this tragic incident and for their families as they learn of this news.”
