WATCH: Whoopi Goldberg wonders why there is ‘banning of trans people’ but not guns

Whoopi Goldberg claimed that America is “banning” transgender people but won’t ban guns, reacting to the recent Michigan State University mass shooting on Wednesday’s episode of The View.

“It’s kind of crazy because I think of all the banning of stuff that’s going on in this country,” Goldberg told her co-hosts. “Banning of books — books don’t kill people. Banning of trans people. I don’t know any trans people, or of any trans people, that have killed people. But they are OK banning that.”

“They feel comfortable banning that. And they can’t figure out how to ban these guns.”

Goldberg did not elaborate on what laws she is referring to or in which states or localities she claims transgender individuals are banned.

At another point, Goldberg referenced the presence at the shooting of a student who had previously survived the 2012 mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School. An MSU student took to TikTok following the shooting, claiming to have been at Sandy Hook as well.

“It is almost 1 a.m., and I am currently directly across the street from where the shootings at Michigan State occurred,” Jacquelyn Matthews said in a video posted on TikTok. “I am 21 years old, and this is the second mass shooting that I have now lived through. Ten years and two months ago, I survived the Sandy Hook shooting.”

Also, during the segment, Sunny Hostin revived the claim that an AR-15 gun is a “weapon of mass destruction.” Joy Behar made an identical claim in the summer of 2022.

When Alyssa Farah Griffin said that the Left sometimes ignores the mental health portion of the school shooting and mass shooting crises, the other hosts disagreed with her, placing the blame squarely on the Right.
