Former President Donald Trump criticized Gov. Glenn Youngkin (R-VA) Friday as he continues to throw elbows with 2024 Republican presidential contenders.

Trump, who has yet to launch his 2024 presidential campaign, confirmed Thursday night that he would make a major announcement at Mar-a-Lago Tuesday, despite Republicans’ underwhelming performance in the midterm elections.

“Young Kin (now that’s an interesting take. Sounds Chinese, doesn’t it?) in Virginia couldn’t have won without me,” Trump wrote on his social media site, Truth Social, Friday morning. “I Endorsed him, did a very big Trump Rally for him telephonically, got MAGA to Vote for him — or he couldn’t have come close to winning.”

“He knows that, and admits it,” he continued. “Besides, having a hard time with the Dems in Virginia — But he’ll get it done!”

Youngkin and, to an even greater extent, Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) are frequently floated as possible 2024 alternatives to Trump.

Youngkin’s Lt. Gov. Winsome Earle-Sears called for Republicans to dump Trump ahead of the next election.

That gives you a clue that the voters want to move on, and a true leader knows when they have become a liability to the mission.”
