Former championship swimmer and women’s sports advocate Riley Gaines said she saw Lia Thomas’s “male genitalia” while being forced to share a locker room with the biologically male swimmer, who identifies as a transgender female, last year.
Gaines is renewing her opposition to transgender female athletes participating in women’s sports, calling upon the National Collegiate Athletic Association to establish separate locker rooms.

“We were not forewarned beforehand that we would be sharing a locker room with Lia,” Gaines told Fox News. “We did not give our consent, they did not ask for our consent, but in that locker room we turned around and there’s a 6’4″ biological man dropping his pants and watching us undress, and we were exposed to male genitalia.”
Thomas reportedly had begun hormone replacement therapy but had not undergone surgery at the time.
Gaines noted that the locker room experience was worse than having to share competition.

“That to me was worse than the competition piece,” the 12-time All-American and five-time SEC champion said. “Not even probably a year, two years ago, this would have been considered some form of sexual assault, voyeurism. But now, not even are they just allowing it to happen, it’s almost as if these large organizations are encouraging it to happen.”
Gaines, who barely lost a race to Thomas, has slammed the NCAA for failing to protect the integrity of women’s sports. She attended the State of the Union address on Tuesday as the guest of Rep. Lisa McClain (R-MI).
