House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY) will pursue visitor logs from former Vice President Mike Pence and threatened to subpoena financial records from the Biden family.

Comer previously sought visitor logs from President Joe Biden to investigate the discovery of classified documents that largely stemmed from his vice presidency days but defended his decision not to seek the same from former President Donald Trump due to special counsel Jack Smith’s investigation.

“We’re going to treat Pence exactly the same way that we’re treating Joe Biden. With Trump, it’s a whole different deal. There’s a formal special prosecutor. Trump has been investigated for six years. He’s still being investigated,” Comer told CNN.

Last month, it was revealed that files marked classified were discovered at Pence’s Indiana residence. The revelation came on the heels of public disclosures of the classified material discovery at Biden’s Wilmington, Delaware, residence and think tank.

When pressed about how special counsel Robert Hur has been appointed to investigate the Biden documents, Comer contended that he did not trust the Biden review.

“I’m against both special counsels. I said, when they appointed the special counsel, ‘We don’t need a special counsel,'” Comer replied. “These special counsels never materialize. They take forever. They operate behind closed doors. There’s no transparency. I believe that our Oversight Committee or congressional investigative committees can do much better.”

Comer began scrutinizing the Biden classified document scandal alongside his counterpart House Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH) last month. After he requested visitor logs from Biden, the president’s team informed him that the logs he was after didn’t exist.

In addition to investigating the classified files, Comer also disclosed that his panel is “in the process” of trying to obtain financial information about the Biden family, particularly Hunter Biden. He warned that if the Treasury Department fails to turn over those records, his panel may issue subpoenas.

“It will if we don’t get the bank records from Treasury. We shouldn’t have to subpoena the banks for this information,” Comer said. “[Biden] is blocking me from getting information that every one of my predecessors, Republican and Democrat, had access to under President Trump, Obama, and George W. Bush.”

His panel has pursued the financial information to gain insights into the Biden family’s overseas business dealings, particularly those revolving around the first son.

Hunter Biden is currently under investigation by federal prosecutors over his alleged lying on a form for the purchase of a firearm and tax fraud. Republicans have raised questions about his and James Biden’s overseas business activities following revelations from the first son’s laptop.
