Since former President Donald Trump announced his 2024 bid for the White House last year, no other Republicans have declared their candidacy.

Former Gov. Nikki Haley (R-SC) is reportedly set to announce her candidacy for president later this month after months of teasing a bid. Here is a look at five of the top likely Republican presidential candidates who have been hinting at running in 2024.

Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL)

DeSantis, who is coming off a nearly 20-point reelection victory in November 2022, has maintained he is focused on his job as governor of the Sunshine State, but he has been widely discussed as a top 2024 contender.

The Florida governor made various trips to key GOP states, including Pennsylvania and Ohio, during the 2022 midterm elections while running for his reelection. He also refused to answer if he would run for president in 2024 when pressed during a debate against his Democratic opponent in October.

DeSantis is widely seen as the top GOP candidate outside of Trump, with some analysts saying other Republican candidates may be waiting for DeSantis to “screw up or fade” before declaring for 2024.

Gov. Kristi Noem (R-SD)

Noem has recently insisted she is “not convinced” she has to run for president, but she has made moves that may suggest otherwise.

The South Dakota governor said immediately after Trump announced his 2024 bid that he is not the GOP’s “best chance” for 2024. She also declared South Dakota the “freest state in the nation” and has taken a swing at another possible 2024 contender, DeSantis, by criticizing his abortion restrictions for not going far enough.

Former Vice President Mike Pence

Pence has strongly hinted at a 2024 run, with the former vice president releasing a book detailing his time in the Trump White House. During his various media appearances promoting the book, Pence said he is in no rush to announce a bid but has not denied interest in a run.

Trump said he would select a different running mate if he is the nominee in 2024 after the two had a falling-out at the end of their time in the White House.

Former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo

Pompeo has also released a new book detailing his time in the Trump administration and has not shied away from 2024 speculation. He has directly addressed speculation he may run for president, saying it is a decision he intends to make in the “next handful of months” while also saying Trump’s candidacy has not affected his decision.

Gov. Chris Sununu (R-NH)

Sununu, a popular governor in the Granite State, has been clear he is exploring a 2024 White House bid. The governor confirmed to CNN on Sunday that he is exploring a run but has no timetable on when he will make a decision.
