Patel’s 7-year-old daughter, his 4-year-old son, and his wife, Neha, were in the vehicle at the time of the crash, per the Los Angeles Times.

The car tumbled 250 to 300 feet, but all family members survived. Patel and his wife received traumatic injuries, and his children were rushed to the hospital with musculoskeletal injuries.

Investigators arrested Patel while he was still hospitalized as they investigated whether the car crash was deliberate and intentional and gathered evidence for probable cause. He was booked into the San Mateo County Jail upon his release from the hospital last week.
