A man got stuck in the middle of the Utah desert when his Hummer electric truck failed during an off-roading trip.

Roman Mica, publisher of The Fast Lane Truck, shared how the EV ran into trouble with its four-wheel drive system.

“Things did not go according to plan,” Mica said, while explaining that he had ventured to Moab, Utah to try out his new 37-inch tires. “Once again we have a Hummer with some issues.”

Mica admitted he became stressed when his efforts to fix a previous problem with the Hummer EV’s air suspension and ground clearance did not work.

“You want the vehicle at its highest ride-height, and every time I try to put it in extended ride-height,” Mica explained about the previous problem. “It says leveling system unavailable.”

Mica said he had replaced the electric truck’s tires with larger ones hoping that would help. However, when he attempted to start driving over the desert’s uneven terrain the truck’s four-wheel drive system failed.

“Four-wheel drive unavailable. Schedule service,” Mica read the Hummer’s alert. “It just died.”

“I have no pedal right now,” he continued. “It feels like four-wheeling steering is also not working.”

Mica managed to get out of the desert using the Hummer EV’s two-wheel drive system. He determined the problem was due to a software glitch.

“This is a great off-road truck, as long as you keep it on-road,” Mica said with a chuckle.

Last fall, Mica posted about how his brand-new General Motors Hummer electric truck completely shut down with only the windshield wipers and hazard lights left working. He was stuck sitting on a highway in his new EV that he had bought for $115,000.
