Midterm results: Republican John James wins Michigan’s redrawn 10th District

After two failed Senate bids, John James (R-MI) secured a ticket to Washington, D.C., by defeating Carl Marlinga (D-MI) in Michigan’s 10th Congressional District.

James beat Marlinga in the “likely Republican” district that narrowly voted for Donald Trump over Joe Biden 49.8%-48.9% in 2020, covering the towns of Warren and Sterling Heights.

The Republican made economics the key push of his campaign, following the national party’s lead of looking to prevent more government spending and reduce continued inflation.

James, who was endorsed by former President Donald Trump, will now look to make good on a promise of moving into the 10th District, something brought up multiple times during the campaign by his Democratic opponent.
