Biden judicial nominee doesn’t know what Constitution does

It is hard to tell who should be the most embarrassed: President Joe Biden, the Democratic Party, the American Bar Association, or Spokane Superior Court Judge Charnelle Bjelkengren.
In a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing Thursday, Sen. John Kennedy (R-LA) asked Bjelkengren, “Judge, tell me what Article V of the Constitution does?”

Bjelkengren replied, “Article V is not coming to mind at the moment.”
This isn’t so bad. Not many people know what Article V of the Constitution does. It lays out the process for amending the Constitution. Most judges don’t see a lot of cases about Article V.
But then Kennedy continued. “How about Article II?”
To which Bjelkengren replied, “Neither is Article II.”
Now, we have problems.
Article II of the United States Constitution lays out the qualifications, duties, and powers of the president of the United States. A federal judge sees cases that involve Article II of the Constitution all the time.
And this Biden nominee has no idea what it does.
It is too bad Kennedy didn’t go on to ask her if she knew what Article III does, since that is the part of the Constitution that outlines the powers and duties of the judicial branch.
The American Bar Association, which always gives Democratic judges better ratings than Republican judges, comes off bad here too. It gave Bjelkengren a “qualified” rating.
This line of questioning is not new for Kennedy. He stumped a President Donald Trump judicial nominee with similar questions in 2017. That nominee had the common sense to withdraw his own nomination after failing to identify basic legal concepts.
We will see if this nominee is at all ashamed by her ignorance.
