The leader of the Republican Party in Texas offered his support of Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) after his win on Tuesday, lauding him for exemplifying a “winning brand” for the GOP.

Texas GOP Chairman Matt Rinaldi praised DeSantis’s victory after he handily defeated Democratic challenger Charlie Crist, securing a second term as Florida’s governor and setting the stage for a potential White House bid in 2024.

DESANTIS CRUISES TO REELECTION AS FLORIDA GOVERNOR OVER CRIST

“Ron DeSantis and his optimistic brand of bold and unapologetic conservatism is a winning brand and the GOP should take note,” Texas GOP Chairman Matt Rinaldi said in a tweet. “Ron DeSantis created a Florida wave because his optimistic, bold & unapologetic conservatism won hearts & minds. He led, rather than followed polls. He stood for something. He took risks. He rejected moderation. He inspired people. This is the path forward for the GOP.”

Rinaldi conceded that although Florida and Texas had massive GOP wins, results elsewhere were “mixed” despite predictions of a “red wave” that would secure Republican majorities in both the House and Senate. Although Republicans are still predicted to take control of the House, the future of the Senate remains unclear as races remain uncalled in Arizona and Nevada.

“But the lesson is, the GOP can’t rest on Democratic incompetence & 70% of voters believing America is on the wrong track to win elections,” Rinaldi said. “It needs a positive message and governing agenda. It needs to stand for something.”

Rinaldi’s comments show noteworthy support for the Republican governor outside of Florida as he flirts with a presidential bid in 2024. Although DeSantis has not indicated whether he plans to launch a White House bid, he is considered a top contender for the GOP nomination.

DeSantis is seen as a top challenger to former President Donald Trump, who is expected to announce a third presidential run, teasing a “very big announcement” at his Mar-a-Lago home on Tuesday. Trump has since gone on the offensive against DeSantis, even going so far as to say it would be a “mistake” and not “good for the party” if the Florida governor ran.
