House Democrats may not like it, but House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) has every good reason to deny Reps. Adam Schiff (D-CA) and Eric Swalwell (D-CA) seats on the House Intelligence Committee.

Democrats and their media allies are trying to make this an issue of political revenge. They are conveniently ignoring that Schiff is a proven liar and that Swalwell has been compromised by Chinese intelligence.

HAVE OUR GENES COMPLETELY CHANGED IN 60 YEARS?

In his remarks yesterday, McCarthy highlighted Schiff’s false statements in detail. Schiff, who, as chairman, had all the secret evidence at his fingertips, had falsely claimed in a public memo that the FBI did not “abuse” the FISA process. Later, the Department of Justice inspector general released the results of his own investigation, exposing Schiff’s memo as false and confirming what his rival, Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA), had maintained.

McCarthy also mentioned Schiff’s role in falsely claiming that the contents of Hunter Biden’s laptop were a Russian smear campaign. “Well, we know that this whole smear on Joe Biden comes from the Kremlin,” Schiff said at the time. We now know, of course, that the contents of Hunter Biden’s laptop were 100% genuine.

Schiff was also caught altering text messages between Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) and White House chief of staff Mark Meadows. The Jan. 6 committee was subsequently forced to admit that the texts, as it presented them to the public, were false.

McCarthy’s case against Swalwell is even easier to make. Swalwell was compromised by a Chinese intelligence operative, so he doesn’t belong on the Intelligence Committee.

“One thing I said from the very beginning, Eric Swalwell cannot get a security clearance in the public sector,” McCarthy said. “Why would we ever give him a security clearance and the secrets to America? So I will not allow him to be on Intel.”

The Intelligence Committee is not like other committees. The speaker has unilateral power to bar from it members he views as unfit. Schiff and Swalwell have proven themselves to be unfit.

At a press conference Wednesday, when asked to defend the specific lies identified by McCarthy, Schiff responded by changing the subject. He made no defense of the veracity of his past statement — and how could he?
