Stacey Abrams has a new excuse. It’s racist and stupid

Last time Stacey Abrams lost the race for governor, she denied she lost and falsely blamed “voter suppression” despite record midterm turnout and a federal case that failed to produce a single voter who had been disenfranchised.
This time she has adopted the Democrats’ favorite new excuse for underperformance: “DISINFORMATION!!!!”
ANOTHER BRIGHT SPOT FOR DEMOCRATS: THEY MAY FINALLY BE RID OF STACEY ABRAMS
Once again, whenever Democrats use the words “disinformation” or “misinformation,” they just mean “arguments or facts that don’t help us politically.” Neither they nor the “disinformation” reporters in the media ever call out blatantly false and politically motivated statements by Democrats, yet they regularly attack true facts as misinformation.
This is corrosive to democracy because branding things as “disinformation” is an attempt to silence speech by declaring it not only false but harmful. It’s basically an effort to put certain political arguments and facts outside the realm of acceptable or protected speech.
But the latest “disinformation” argument from Democrats is also condescending and racist. Specifically, Democrats and their allies in the media say the main reason Republicans are making gains among black and Hispanic voters is that Republicans are targeting misinformation at these voting blocs.
After the 2020 election, the “Spanish language misinformation” excuse took over the internet. Here’s a lengthy piece by CNN disinformation reporter Donie O’Sullivan that fails to cite a single instance of Spanish-language disinformation. This was all part of the media-Dem effort to pre-explain away GOP gains.
How else but organized disinformation campaigns to explain Republicans taking nonwhite votes from Democrats when Republicans won’t even say “Latinx”?
Now Abrams is using that excuse to explain her underperformance among black voters in her second straight loss.
Other Democrats are sounding this chorus, as Robby Soave at Reason lays out:
Keisha Lance Bottoms, a former Democratic mayor of Atlanta, expressed hearty agreement in an interview on MSNBC. “I think that Stacey is spot on with that,” said Bottoms. “I listen as my kids watch NBA highlights and whatever else they watch on YouTube. I hear the misinformation being piped in.” Brittney Cooper, an author and activist, took things a step further while speaking at Harvard University, referring to the “demon of disinformation” that was causing black men to vote for Warnock but not for Abrams.
There is no evidence of this. It’s just an excuse. It’s also, just like the “Spanish language misinformation” excuse kind of racist.
The implication is that black men or Hispanics in general are more susceptible to fraud or conspiracy theories — that they are vulnerable populations that need to be protected. That CNN article even delves into the question of monitoring or limiting “disinformation” spread through private text messages.
Abrams has consistently dealt in conspiracy theories. This latest one just happens to be more condescending and racist than her previous crackpot ideas.
