Jill Biden to donate inauguration outfits to Smithsonian collection

First lady Jill Biden is set to donate her 2021 inauguration outfits to the Smithsonian collection.
The outfits will be accepted as part of the National Museum of American History’s First Ladies Collection on Wednesday, the institution announced on its website. The outfits will join the ranks of 27 other first ladies, including Jacqueline Kennedy, Laura Bush, Melania Trump, and Michelle Obama.

“The National Museum of American History continues its more than 100-year-old tradition of displaying the inaugural attire of first ladies as part of its exhibitions. Both ensembles worn by First Lady Jill Biden on Inauguration Day will be featured. Dr. Biden’s attire will be formally added to The First Ladies Collection in a ceremony featuring remarks by the First Lady and the designers of her ensembles,” the announcement reads.
The collection will accept Biden’s day and evening attire; her blue dress and overcoat worn during the inauguration and her ivory dress and overcoat worn afterward. Her face masks will be donated as well.

The outfits will immediately be put on display for the public following the dedication ceremony in which Biden herself will deliver remarks.
