Former NFL running back Peyton Hillis was discharged from the hospital Friday, according to his girlfriend.

Hillis was hospitalized two weeks ago after “saving his children from drowning in the ocean” near Pensacola, Florida. Last week, he was still on a ventilator while receiving treatment at an intensive care unit. His girlfriend, singer and actress Angela Cole, shared a photo of the medical staff to her Instagram.

“This picture does not have anywhere near the amount of people who took such great care of him,” her caption read. “You not only saved Peyton’s life, you made it a priority to make sure his family and I were okay amidst your busy schedules. You were all so calming, answered every question multiple times kindly.”

Escambia County emergency services initially reported four people — two adults and two children — in the water when a bystander got involved in their rescue. The two adults were taken to the hospital and neither the second person’s identity nor condition were revealed.

“And a huge thank you again for all of your prayers, love, and support. God heard. And He answered,” Cole wrote.

Hillis is played college football with the Arkansas Razorbacks and further made a name for himself as a member of the 2010 Cleveland Browns. He was also featured on the cover of Madden 2012. Altogether, Hillis played in the NFL for seven years.
