Rep. Jim Banks (R-IN) is preparing to launch by the end of the month a caucus that pushes back on the “woke” policy stances of the far Left.

The Indiana Republican, who previously chaired the Republican Study Committee and played a key role in crafting party messaging during the last Congress, has been outspoken on issues including transgender athletes in girls’ sports, critical race theory, and federal funding being allocated toward “leftist institutions and activities.”

JIM BANKS ANNOUNCES RUN FOR SENATE IN INDIANA

Banks announced plans to launch the “anti-woke caucus” in a Friday op-ed for the Claremont Institute.

“This utterly un-American doctrine would be comical were it not so powerful,” he wrote. “And it is powerful because it is enforced not only by every major national institution. It is promoted and funded by the federal government itself.”

One source familiar with the plans said the group will likely host dinners where members can discuss how to combat what they argue is left-wing overreach into the private and public sectors.

“It’ll be dinners with other members of the caucus and then we’ll have a special guest,” they said, adding that the guest speaker will provide informal remarks “about their thoughts on what Congress can do to combat wokeness that would be like discussion in exchange for ideas.”

Shortly after launching, the group is expected to release a “statement of principles” and be “used as a platform to coordinate bills and amendments to defund some of these woke programs that Congress has been funding.”
