New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell (D-LA) has been accused of having an affair with a former security officer, according to recent divorce papers filed by the officer’s wife.

New Orleans Police Department Officer Jeffrey Vappie is allegedly having an “ongoing sexual relationship,” with someone referred to as “Mrs. L.C.”, according to the divorce petition filed on Jan. 4. Unnamed sources told the NBC affiliate WDSU that the alleged woman was Cantrell.

“The petitioner desires a judgment of divorce from the defendant because of the defendant’s continuous acts of adultery,” court documents claimed, according to the outlet. “Vappie has been in an ongoing sexual relationship with Mrs. L.C. since approximately May 2021.”

The filer, Vappie’s wife, claimed she found out about the affair in November of 2022. The filing raises new questions about Cantrell’s relationship with her former security officer, who was placed under investigation in November after a news organization highlighted alleged payroll irregularities.

On at least 10 dates in August and September 2022, Vappie’s wife alleges that her husband and “L.C.” engaged in a “sexual relationship” that is still ongoing. All 10 dates lined up with surveillance footage that showed Vappie and Cantrell spent hours alone inside of a city-owned apartment, according to NOLA.com.

Cantrell’s office has not commented on the divorce proceedings, but the mayor is facing a recall petition after multiple scandals. Cantrell previously denied any wrongdoing in November.
